Jon Ralph Schweitzer
Jon Ralph Schweitzer, 84, of Largo, Florida, formally of Lewiston, NY, passed away on March 1, 2024. Born on April 28, 1939 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John E. and Doris M. (nee Robida) Schweitzer.
Jon attended local schools, attending both Lewiston-Porter and the former Bishop Duffy High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy, and was honorably discharged. On April 25, 1965, Jon married Rosita Trautlein in St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Lewiston, NY. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired from the Power Authority of New York, where he was employed as an electrician. Jon was a Master Mason and belonged to the Masonic Lodge #551, since 1967. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Shriners International, Lewiston #1 Volunteer Fire Company Exempt Organization, and the 3F Conservation Club.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jon is survived by a daughter, Heidi M. Smith; grandchildren, David Jon Smith, Miranda Leigh Smith, and Jon Edward Smith.
A time of visitation for family and friends to gather will be on Friday, March 15th, from 4-8 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY (716-297-9007). Private prayers of committal and interment will be held with his family in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.

Gerald A. “Gippster” Gipp January 2, 1963-February 25, 2024 Age 61 of Lewiston, NY. Gerry was a son of the late Arthur and Joan Gipp. He lived his entire life in Lewiston graduating from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1981. He went on to earn an AOS from Alfred State College in 1983. Known as “Gippster”, he owned and operated Gippster’s Collision on Balmer Rd in Youngstown for many years beginning in 1991. His interest in cars extended to classic and customized models which he could be seen driving in Lewiston and Youngstown. He was a fan of stock car racing at Ransomville Speedway where he, at one time, sponsored the 4-cylinder class, worked on a pit crew, and eventually drove a car. Gerry was a member of the Lower Niagara Moose and a long-time member of the 3-F Club. He was a past Vice President of the 3-F’s board of directors. He had a life-long interest in hunting and particularly in fishing, often on Lake Ontario and occasionally in Costa Rica. Gerry was always kind to senior citizens and to animals. He was a cat-person convert and leaves behind Paco, Corky, and Tito who will miss his lap to sit on. Gerry is survived by his wife, Sue A. Brade, who will forever cherish the time they had together. There is not a dating site on the internet that would ever have matched them together, yet they were happily married for more than 21 years. Also left to remember Gippster’s antics and mourn his passing are the best friends a guy could ever have. There are simply too many of you to list here. Memories will be shared at a Celebration of Gerry’s Life on Friday, March 15, 2024, 4pm-8pm at the 3-F Club, 904 Swann Rd, Youngstown, NY 14174. Dale L. Shank

Dale Lynn Shank, 72, of Ransomville, NY, left this planet on June 8, 2022 at his residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Dale F. and Margaret M. (Jamieson) Shank.
Dale was a 1967 graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He later earned Associate Degrees from Northrup Institute in Aerospace Maintenance and Technology and from Erie Community College in Metallurgy. Dale proudly served in the United States Navy from his enlistment during the Vietnam War in 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1972, where he was trained on Jet Engine Mechanics in Memphis, TN and Lemore, CA, and later served on the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier CVA-59 in Cecil Field, FL.
Dale was employed as an operator with Occidental Chemical, and later in Quality Control with Hebeler Corporation in Tonawanda, NY and MOOG Aerospace in Niagara Falls, NY prior to his retirement. After retirement, he was employed by the Village of Lewiston as summer help, watering flowers and helping to beautify Center Street, a job that he loved.
Dale was extremely active at the 3F Club. His work with the Youth Club is legendary and spanned many years. He started the HAVA day at the club which has had a big impact on our local veterans. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his 2 Labrador Retrievers, fishing and woodworking. Dale will be remembered most for his sense of humor, kindness to others, mentorship to youth and love of his family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 14, from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 11 AM. Howard L. Eagan
Howard L. Eagan of the Town of the Wheatfield, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020, in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 11, 1966, a son of Robert Eagan and the late Bonnie [Miers] Eagan. He graduated from LewPort .
Howard was employed with Leaseway Transportation and as a foreman with Penske, before becoming a heavy tow truck operator with John’s Towing in Buffalo and Big Red Towing in Syracuse for many years. He is now an instructor with MatJack Industry in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the 3F Club, the 9/11 Memorial and enjoyed riding his Goldwing Motorcycle and camping.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Janeene M. [Tokarczyk] Eagan; his children Marcas Eagan, Jessica Marquart and Danielle (Brian) Curry; two grandchildren Natalia Curry and Taya Marquart, a brother Robert (Rene) Eagan, Jr. and good friend Kimberly Simpson and her children Andrew, Ross, Tara; also several nieces and nephews.

Rocky G. Madrid
Rocky Madrid, age 69, passed away on May 9, 2020 in Lewiston, New York, in an unfortunate accident. He was killed while doing what he loved, ATV trekking around his property with his beloved dog, Liebchin. He was the son of Theodore and Marilyn Madrid (Martin); and brother to Bennea Hinman and T. Kim Madrid. He was the partner of Deborah Krieger. They shared 28 years of companionship together.
Rocky was born in North Tonawanda, NY, where he graduated from high school before attending the Police Academy at Niagara County Community College. He also graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in psychology. Rocky spent over 20 years working for the State of New York as a corrections officer. Upon retirement from the state, he found a second career as a real estate agent with Realty USA, a job he enjoyed and made lifelong friends doing.
Rocky was an avid outdoorsman who loved to travel, he was a skier, scuba diver, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and took immense joy in watching his flowers grow amongst his wind spinners and solar lights. He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes when he was telling a tall tale. He was a special grandpa to his grandchildren who were the love of his life and his pride and joy.
Rocky was predeceased by his parent and sister. He is survived by Deborah Krieger; his brother ,Kim; children, Adam (Miriam) Madrid, Brad (Leslie) Madrid, Kelly (Lee) Slaugenhoupt; and his grandchildren, Krissy, Mandy, Allie, Ty, Jack and Bradley.
A celebration of Rocky’s life will be held at a future date.

Gary B. Clarke, of Niagara Falls, New York entered into rest surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in Niagara Falls Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, New York October 10, 1939, the son of the late Arthur F. and Katherine E. (nee Barr) Clarke. Gary graduated from Tonawanda High School, then attended Erie Tech earning his electrical engineering degree. He went on to work for General Motors Corporation retiring in 2003. He married the late Barbara E. Sharpe on September 16, 1961 in Niagara Falls, New York. Gary was a life time member of the 3F Conservation Club, enjoyed golfing, NASCAR and Buffalo sports. Gary is survived by his loving children Michael (Carol) Clarke, Elizabeth (William) York and Jean Marie (Tim) Crowder; cherished grandchildren Michael (Jaylene), Hilary (Stephen), Lauren (Brandon), Marylynn (Christopher), Megan (Justin), Emily, Robert III and Martin (Sarah Kasier); adored great-grandchildren Trevor, Addilyn, Kaylie and Taylor; brother of Nancy (James) Colegrove; father-in-law of Robert Steinjan, Jr.; also survived by nieces and nephews. Jamie Brolinski age 52, of Lewiston, NY, husband of Ailbhe (Houston) Brolinski died Saturday May 18th, 2019 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute Buffalo, NY.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 30, 1967 he is the son of Phyllis E. (Irving) Brolinski and the late Robert H. Brolinski. Jamie married Ailbhe Houston on May 31, 2002.
He was a Supervisor, employed at Smokin Joe’s in Lewiston, NY for the past 25 years. Jamie was a member of the Lower Niagara Moose Lodge # 584 in Lewiston also the 3F Conversation Club, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also a hockey fan.
Surviving is his wife; Ailbhe; his children Erin, Addisyn and Ethan Brolinski; his mother Phyllis Brolinski; his siblings Dennis Brolinski (Michael Ferguson), Chuck Brolinski (Randi Jones),
Robin Haskell (Dick Grace) and Terry (Kris) Brolinski, also surviving is a brother in law Niall Houston; a sister in law Patti Brolinski; several nieces, nephews aunts and uncles. Jaime is predeceased by a daughter Tiffany Ribbeck.

Life Legacy
Dr. Terrence Vargo passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2019, leaving behind his spouse, Charlene; daughter Caitlin, from his first marriage to Becky Watford; mother, Loretta; brothers, Tim and Dan; sisters, Jacquie, Mimi and Carolyn. He will be sorely missed by the many people he touched with his generosity, love for life and good nature as an employer, colleague, husband, father, brother, son and devoted friend. He is with his father Donald Vargo, who died August 5, 2014.
He earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry in 1989 from the University at Buffalo SUNY and worked as a research associate in the Industry-University Cooperative on Biomaterials there until 1992. Terry was a founding member and president of Integument Technologies, Inc. of Buffalo, New York. He is the author of over thirty scientific publications and is a co-author on nine fluoropolymer modification patents.
Terry grew up in Northeast Ohio, near Cleveland, which he proudly represented throughout his life as a fan of the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. He attended Saint Francis De Sales grade school in Parma, where he served as an altar boy. He graduated with honors from Padua Franciscan high school. A life-long athlete, Terry was a golfer, a pool player, a wrestler, cross country runner and was called “Tito” for his skill as a baseball player. An avid sportsman and member of the Fin, Feather and Fur club of Lewiston, New York, he hunted wild boar and deer with a compound bow and fished the oceans and Great Lakes. He was also an accomplished guitar player, loved 60s and 70s classic rock and was a gourmet cook. He met his love, Charlene McDonald, in 1989. They traveled the world together and made their home in Lewiston, New York.
Terry was popular and active in the establishments and clubs throughout Lewiston. His larger-than-life presence will be missed by all. Godspeed, Terry. We will see you on the other side. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contribution be made to The Heifer Foundation, www.heiferfoundation.org.

Stanley S. Alex
August 12, 1941 – October 14, 2018
Stanley S. Alex died peacefully at his home in Lewiston, NY, at the age of 77, on Sunday,, October 14th, 2018. He was born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, to Stanley and Stella Alex.
He graduated from LaSalle HS (1959), received a BS degree with honors from SUNY Fredonia (1962) and a MS in Administration from SUNY College at Buffalo (1970).
Stan taught in the Niagara Falls school district for 33 years, most of which were with the gifted and talented students. He was a master teacher, the first mentor in the school district and was the JV wrestling coach for several years. He was well respected and loved by his students, many of which kept in touch after graduation.
Stan was a wonderful father who dedicated his heart and everything he did throughout his life to his family. He instilled a love for the outdoors; hunting, boating, camping, fishing, and skiing.
Stan was an avid skier and a dedicated volunteer with the National Ski Patrol for 45 years (Bluemont, Tamarack, Kissing Bridge, and the Buffalo Ski Club). He was a patrol leader for several years and also served as an instructor of Outdoor Emergency Care and an instructor trainer of many patrollers in the Western New York region. Additionally, Stan volunteered at the American Red Cross teaching CPR for many groups at fitness centers, schools and the ski patrol.
He was a runner for many years and entered many races. His greatest enjoyment was running along the Niagara gorge. Stan studied Tae Kwon Do and received his brown belt. He was an avid golfer from high school through his retirement years. Stan was an instructor for the First Tee program at Hyde Park golf course in Niagara Falls, NY. More recently, he was a member of Niagara Frontier Country Club. He was a member of the 3-F Club, American Legion, and the Lower Niagara Moose Lodge. Stan will be remembered by his outgoing personality and sense of humor.
Stan is survived by his wife, Sally (57 years); his two sons, Steve (Mary) and Scott (Carol); three grandchildren, Ben, Eric and Abby; and brother of Doreen (Jack) Murtaugh.

Eugene A. Dinardo
June 17th, 1932 – August 14th, 2018
Eugene A. DiNardo, 86, of Lewiston, NY passed away on August 14, 2018 while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born June 17, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Lucia (Fittante) DiNardo.
Gene attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational High School in 1952. He later attended Cortland University where he was a member of their football team. He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1955. While serving in the Army, Gene met the love of his life, Alice Nannette (Steen), and married her in 1956. Together they visited all of the National Parks in the lower 48 United States, and two parks in Alaska. In retirement they also traveled to Italy and Ireland. Gene retired from TAM Ceramics in 1995 as a chemist and lab supervisor after 40 years of employment. Gene was a lifetime member of the 3F Club in Youngstown where he taught hunter safety courses for 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting with his Labrador Retrievers and fishing. Above all, Gene will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Gene is survived by his three children, Michael (Marlene) DiNardo and Karen (Jack) Waugaman both of Lewiston, Mark (Karla) DiNardo of Lexington, KY, eight grandchildren, Anastasia, Victoria and Alekzandr Waugaman, Nicholas, Grace, Luke, Logan and Max DiNardo, a brother Samuel (Donna) DiNardo as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard A. Boccanera
Richard A.’s Story
Richard A. Boccanera, 66 years old of Youngstown, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He was born in Niagara Falls on March 30, 1952, the son of Norma (Fabrizio) Boccanera and the late Anthony M. Boccanera.
Rich attended Mt. Carmel Parochial School, Bishop Duffy High School and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He served with the United States Air Force Reserves from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1976. He was the former owner of Bragg’s on Ferry Avenue and was the former owner of Mr. B’s Restaurant on Hyde Park Boulevard. He most recently was employed as the General Manager of the Western Door Steak House at the Seneca Niagara Casino. Rich enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing and spending time at his hunting cabin. He was a member of the 3F Club.
In addition to his mother, Rich is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice (Alcuri) Boccanera; his brothers, Michael Boccanera and Mark Boccanera; and his sister, Barbara (Bill) MacKendrick; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda Seefeldt.

Chester Carl “Bud” Banks
1932 – 2018
Chester Carl Banks, age 86 of Lewiston, died Monday March 19, 2018 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston.
Carl was born March 14, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Chester and Mary (Gowski) Banks. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1949 and went to work for the former Hooker Electro Chemical Co. as a chemist’s assistant. Carl married Kathleen R. Garvey on April 19, 1952. A Veteran of the Korean War, he entered the U.S. Army in October of 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with rank of CPL and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge he returned to Hooker Chemical Company which became Occidental Chemical Co. and retired as a Supervisor of Maintenance in 1997 after 45 years of service.
Carl was an avid sportsman, a former Conservation Deputy Sheriff, and former President of the 3F Club in Youngstown. He loved flying and built and piloted his own Cessna for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Deena (Dan) Hucko, Michael (Valerie) Banks, Annette Banks (Curtis Meyer), and Christopher (Maja) Banks; five grandchildren, a great granddaughter; and a sister, Joyce Salda. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Weimer, and a brother Mark (Mary Ellen) Banks.
Obituary of Franklin “Frank” Wright
Franklin L. “Frank” Wright, age 84 of Lewiston, died Sunday December 3, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Frank was born July 30, 1933 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Lester and Laura C. (Flack) Wright. He graduated from Trott Vocational High School in 1951 and went to work for Niagara Welding in Niagara Falls, NY. Frank was inducted into the U.S. Army in June of 1956 and was honorably discharged as a PFC in March of 1958. He served as a Military Policeman in Panmunjom, Korea during the Peace talks and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Medal. Frank married Marie D. Schechterly on September 26, 1959 and they have resided in Lewiston since 1970. He began his career as a welder with Ironworkers Local #9 in Niagara Falls in 1959, retiring in1990.
Frank was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown. He was an avid outdoorsman and member of the Niagara River Station Fishing Club, Grand Island; a member of the 3 F , Conservation Club in Youngstown and member of its’ Board of Directors. He had also served on the Ironworkers Local #9 Board of Directors. He enjoyed wood carving and taught it at the Lewiston Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; a daughter, Susan (Bradley) Milleville of Ransomville; a son, David (Jessica) Wright of Youngstown; his grandchildren, Sarah, Christopher, and Nicholas Wright; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a twin sister, Frances (late James) Murphy, and two other sisters, Catherine (late Floyd) Hall and Virginia (late Laurence, Sr.) Lang.
William S. Deering
April 3rd, 1972 ~ July 31, 2017
William Shawn ‘Bill’ Deering, 46, passed away on July 31, 2017 at home with loved ones in North Tonawanda, NY. He was born on April 3, 1972 in North Tonawanda, NY, the son of Charles and Arlene Deering, and the late Marybeth (Dirks) Deering.
Bill graduated from Starpoint High School, class of 1989. Following graduation, he opened a landscaping company, Pro Care Property Maintenance. Bill was a generous, hard worker who would give the shirt off his back.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sandra (Cassenti) Deering; two step-children, Robert Micoli, and Elizabeth (Ralph) Fuller. William was the brother of Jeffery (Nicole) Deering, Patrick (Ann) Deering, Matthew (Sheena) Deering. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and several loved ones.
Steven K. Beahen, Sr.
October 25, 1955 ~ April 8, 2017
Steven K. Beahen, Sr, 61, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Select Speciality Hospital in Erie, PA, following a brief illness. Born on October 25, 1955 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Philip and Marian (Smith) “Smitty” Beahen. On September 11, 1976, Steven married the former Lynn Hiddie in Lewiston, NY.
Steven was a lifelong area resident, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1973. He then went on to earn his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Niagara County Community College as well as a certificate in building, estimating and constructing from Erie Community College, North Campus. Steven began his lifelong construction career working with his father at Smith Brothers Construction. He then was employed by Laur and Mack Construction and Tri-C Construction. Most recently, Steven was currently employed as a General Superintendent for Pinto Construction Services. He served as Past-President of the Laborers’ Local #91. Steven’s job was his passion and he was highly respected by his co-workers.
Steven was a member of Community of Christ Church on Lewiston Road and the 3F Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Steven enjoyed cooking and was an excellent grill chef, horse racing, skeet shooting and spending time at his cabin in the southern tier, Leisurewood campgrounds, Saratoga Race Course and Sarasota, Fl. Above all, family was everything to Steven and his grandchildren will forever miss their “Papa.”

He was born in Scranton, PA on December 11, 1927, the son of the late Gerald and Catherine [McAndrew] Mangan. Mr. Mangan came to Niagara Falls with his family as a child. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and from the Fordham University College of Pharmacy. He was a pharmacist and owner of the Strand Drug Store for over 50 years, before retiring. Mr. Mangan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and going to dinner with them.He was an avid sportsman and photographer and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the 3F Club, the St. Catharines Club and Club Lorelei. He was the husband of 53 years to the late Yvonne (Poirier) Mangan, who passed away in September of 2012. Mr. Mangan is survived by his children Jerry Mangan, Michele (Bernie) Bauman, Yvonne (Richard) DeMarco, and Renetta Rolling, ten grandchildren, John, Michele, Sherri and George Bauman, Jessica, Jennifer and Richard DeMarco, Jerry, Patrick and Tim Rolling and was the brother in law of Joan, Louise and Judy Mangan, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late George Mangan and brother of the late Dr. William and Thomas Mangan. Inturnment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.

Howard E. “Ted” Shipston, age 69 of Ransomville, died Tuesday July 26, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family, after a lengthy illness.
Ted was born February 19, 1947 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the son of the late Howard T. and Mary Ruth (Connolly) Shipston. He was raised in Youngstown and was a 1966 graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School. After graduation he was inducted into the U.S. Army in August and was honorably discharged as a SP-4 in June of 1968. Ted served in Vietnam as a Radio Operator with the 588th Signal Company and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He owned and operated Shipston Hardware in Youngstown for 5 years before establishing Shipston Sales which he ran for 30 years.
Ted was a member of the V.F.W. Lake Ontario Post #313 in Youngstown, a member of the 3-F Conservation Club, and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved wildlife and the outdoors.
He is survived by three daughters, Kristel (John) Stevens, Charity (Frank) Tantillo, and Kelly (Brad) Pfalzer; a sister, Sandra Bedell; his grandchildren, Kody, Samantha, R.J., Hunter, Kailey, Caden, and John Marshall; two nephews, David and Brett; two nieces, Bonnie and Molly; and his former wife, Bonnie Zulke.

David C. Ellcome, age 69 of Youngstown, died unexpectedly on Sunday March 22, 2015 in Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston.
David was born October 18, 1945 in Portsmouth, England, the son of the late Edwin C and Joan (street) Ellcome. He was raised and schooled in Portsmouth and received his secondary education at the Portsmouth Glass Works. David was active with Ocean Youth Club of Portsmouth, sailing on the British Channel Cutter “Theodora”. His sailing brought him to the United States in 1968, and on November 30, 1968 he married Judith “Judy” Orr. They lived in Portsmouth England for several years before returning to Youngstown. Judy predeceased him on January 8, 2014. David was a union glazier, employed by Cataract Glass Co. in Niagara Falls, NY for 20 years. He was a member of the 3F Conservation Club and a former member of the Youngstown Yacht Club. Davey and Judy shared a passion for sailing on their boat “Little Limey” and he was especially passionate about teaching sailing.
David is survived by his son, Benjamin (Jessica Walsh) Ellcome of Exeter, RI; his granddaughter, Be Lily Ellcome Hill; and a brother Alan (Sandra) Ellcome of Southampton, England. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sarah Ellcome.
A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2015 after 4PM at The Ontario House (aka The Stone Jug) at 358 Main Street, Youngstown NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to the Mystic Seaport Annual Fund would be appreciated.
